Thing 6

I really tried to examine flickr from a use standpoint but I could not determine a task that would involve me creating something using flickr at this time. However, as is typical with me as a lifelong learner, I will put it into my "magic bag of tricks" and when the opportunity comes to apply this information I can utilize it. It will be easier to spot the use of mashups and other techno techniques as I watch TV, movies, see posters and look at magazines. In my explorations for Thing 6 I found some interesting items for which I will include the urls below for future examination and usage.

I found nearly 22,000 thumbnailed pictures related to librarians via compfight.com. and though I had posted my picture and tagged it as a librarian, could not figure out if it had been added and where it would appear in this collection of photos. There are many pictures which reinforce the stereotypical librarian image, which was the reason I posted my photo and there are some pretty surprising pictures which would not be considered stereotypical at all once you turn the filter off.

I also checked out flickriver.com which is another method of manipulating the contents posted in flickr; however, in this case, the beauty of the larger size photos was overwhelming. This has the potential of being a time drain because of the desire to look at each of the 500 available photos at a time. A search for "librarian" has over 87,000 photos to examine. I wonder why there are more via this tool than compfight.com. I still could not find my photo via browse, so I am not sure how they are organized.
